Blast Off! The hope of the 2nd coming! (VBS Sunday)
Download the “Blast Off” Connections Group Discussion Every one of us will face the reality that this life will end. Whether we die a physical death or experience the physical transformation that will occur for those who experience the 2nd coming of Christ while alive, this life is destined to end. That reality put in front of us the most significant questions we all must answer…”What will happen to me when Christ returns?” There are really only two options. I will either be raised to eternal life, or I will be raised to eternal separation from God- damnation. This “blast-off” into eternity can either be a source of hope or a source of worry. Paul reminds us that if Christ’s Spirit is in us, then this idea is indeed our true source of hope. Nothing can come against us that can destroy our victory when
we choose to remain faithful to Christ. Death itself is only temporary. Paul wants us to clearly understand what the resurrected Christ has instructed him about how that blastoff will happen. First, those who are dead in Christ- they died with the Holy Spirit dwelling in them- will be raised first. Then those who are alive will be taken up into the clouds with those just risen from the dead. And we will be with Christ forever- the new kingdom of God. So, as we celebrate the “Blast-Off” theme of Vacation Bible School, it is important for all of us to keep in mind the truth that these little ones have learned. We must get our relationship with God straight. The blast off is coming, and we must be ready for it. There will be no countdown to warn us. So, we must be ready at any moment. When we accept Christ’s forgiveness, and live a life dedicated to loving Him, the final blast-off is an anticipation full of Hope.
